BACKGROUND
Patricia A. Nixon has been a member of the firm since 2011 and an attorney since 1989. Admitted to practice throughout Pennsylvania in state courts and in the United States District Courts, she has been repeatedly recognized as a leader in the Pittsburgh legal community.
EDUCATIONAL DEGREES AND HONORS
Ms. Nixon was a 1972 honors graduate of Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1976. She earned a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1979, where she graduated magna cum laude. She graduated eighth in her class from the Duquesne University Law School in 1989. While at Duquesne, Ms. Nixon was selected as a member of the Law Review.
BUSINESS EXPERIENCE
Ms. Nixon enjoyed a successful career in business and government before becoming a lawyer. After obtaining a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Pittsburgh, she worked as a planner for Green International. She then joined the Allegheny County, Pennsylvania Department of Development as a project manager and grant writer. She then became a commercial lending officer within Mellon Bank’s Community Development Corporation. While at Mellon, she went through the bank’s rigorous credit training program, then earned her juris doctor degree at the evening program of Duquesne University Law School.
LAW PRACTICE
After graduating from Law School in 1989, Ms. Nixon served as a law clerk to several Judges in the United States Department of Labor Office of Administrative Law Judges. She then entered private practice, where she served with a number of law firms before establishing her own office in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Ms. Nixon joined Weisel, Xides & Foerster as an attorney in 2011. She has concentrated her practice in the areas of business law, litigation, family law, and representation of both creditors and debtors in United States Bankruptcy Court.
RECOGNITION BY PEERS
Ms. Nixon has been consistently recognized as a leader by her peers in the Pittsburgh legal community. After being selected as a member of the Duquesne Law Review during law school, she served for several years as a case note editor with the Pittsburgh Legal Journal. While practicing as a lawyer, she was invited to join the W. Edward Sell Chapter of the American Inns of Court at the University of Pittsburgh as well as the American Inns of Court Chapter for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Ms. Nixon currently serves as a Master in the W. Edward Sell Chapter and a Barrister in the Bankruptcy Court Chapter.
